Meeting Presentation: Regional AMWA Talk

Susan Payne presented a streamed presentation about Finding Medical Information Online (use this link to access the slides of the presentation) to the regional chapter of AMWA on Friday, June 11.

According to Microsoft’s Bing team, there are over one trillion web pages in existence. Google has indexed more than one trillion discrete web addresses. With massive amounts of information at our disposal, how do we sift through all that is available to locate information online more efficiently? This presentation provides an overview to three popular and publically-available search engines — PubMed, Medline Plus, and Google. Understanding the search features of each resource will help you locate and evaluate medical information online more efficiently. Beyond comparing these search engines, this talk will explore advanced search techniques, such using PubMed’s saved searches, how to share lists of articles via PubMed, and how to measure how often an article has been cited.
